6090 red zone owners agree to sell

Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee says 6090 of Christchurch's 7860 red zone owners have agreed to sell their properties to the government.

More than 6000 of the 7860 red zone home owners in Christchurch have signed agreements to sell their properties to the government.
Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee says it is an important milestone in the city's recovery.
"This is an overwhelming endorsement of the process we put in place and means 6090 households have or are making plans to move from the worst affected suburbs to a new life on safe land," he said on Tuesday.
Red zone properties can't be repaired or rebuilt because the land they are on is unstable.
Mr Brownlee says about 50 offers are being accepted each week.
